Deadline for new artisan applications at Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea

Three times a year the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea holds review sessions to consider works and products by Kentucky artisans who are not juried members of Kentucky Arts Council programs or the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. Applications for the next review must be received or postmarked by Sept. 30.

Application categories are:

• Visual Arts – (crafts and two-dimensional art)

• Books

• Music, storytelling and other recordings/films

• Kentucky Proud food products

Artists can download applications from the center’s website at www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov.

Completed application forms along with additional requested materials can be mailed to: Artisan Review, Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, 200 Artisan Way in Berea. Applications may also be submitted at the center’s front desk from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea, Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily, year-round, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The center currently features works by more than 700 artisans from more than 100 counties across the Commonwealth. A gallery exhibit, “Turn, Turn, Turn: Lathe-turned Works by Kentucky Artisans,” is on display through Sept. 12; and in the lobby, “Weaving in Kentucky: A Continuing Tradition” is on display through Nov. 14.

2015 Woodland Art Fair, Lexington, Ky

Kentucky Crafted is an adjudicated program that provides assistance to Kentucky visual and craft artists through marketing and promotional opportunities and arts business training. Morgan County artists participate in 34th annual Berea Craft Festival

Two Morgan County residents, Dean Hill and Rebecca Miller Campbell, in addition to over 115 artists and crafters, will be participating in the upcoming Berea Craft Festival at Indian Fort Theater in Berea, Ky. This is a fun-filled event for the whole family. Lots of fantastic art, live craft demonstrations, top-notch music, great food and traditional dance. It is a rich, educational and colorful experience for all! Come join us this weekend, July 10-12.

The date has been set for the 2nd annual Pickin’ in the Park at DeLancey Park in Cannel City. Last year’s event was a fun-filled evening with arts, crafts, food and so much more. Mark your calendars and plan to attend this event in DeLancey Park.

2014 Morgan County Market in the Park (In Photos)

This is just a sampling of the fine wares available at the 2014 Morgan County Market in the Park this past weekend at Old Mill Park in West Liberty. The mission of Market in the Park is to create an “eat local, buy local” mentality that celebrates our community’s creativity and fosters economic growth in Morgan County. It is always a great experience seeing what is being made by folks in Morgan County and this Market in the Park was no exception!

In addition to over 30 artists and crafters, members of local Farmers Market were in attendance with fresh, local produce, herbs and flowers. Locally grown food was provided free to the public courtesy of the Farmer’s Market and The Chop Shop. The Appalachian Troubadours provided entertainment throughout the entire event and added such a fun, festive vibe! Make sure to make plans to attend next year’s Market in the Park! It is held the first weekend in August.
